Easthampton Pilots First Red Cross Bin at City Hall in Support of Sustainability Efforts

Easthampton, MA - The City of Easthampton is excited to announce the pilot launch of its first textile bin at City Hall. This initiative supports the Red Cross’s and the City’s commitment to sustainability and the environment. It aims to provide the community with a convenient and accessible way to recycle unwanted clothing and textiles while keeping them out of our landfills.

The textile bin will accept various fabrics, including clothing, footwear, and linens. Once collected, these items will be sorted and processed by the Red Cross to either be reused or recycled, depending on their condition.

To help conform to the new DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) statewide ban on the disposal of all textiles in the trash or landfills, aligned with the municipality’s commitment to sustainability, Executive Assistant Lindsi Mailler, and DPW Director Greg Nuttelman, chose City Hall as the pilot location for residents. The pilot project will run for six-twelve months and will help assess the feasibility of expanding the initiative to other locations across the city.

“We are pleased to partner with the Red Cross on this initiative,” said Lindsi Mailler, Executive Assistant. “It is a great way to support sustainability efforts while allowing our residents to give back to the community and contribute to a cleaner, greener, and more resilient community.”

The Red Cross textile bin will be available for textile donations on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the City Hall (50 Payson Avenue) in the back of the municipal parking lot.

*Acceptable donation examples include:

  • Clothing (men’s, women’s, and children’s)

  • Footwear (boots, shoes, sneakers, and athletic shoes)

  • Household textiles (towels, curtains, and blankets)

  • Accessories (purses, belts, jewelry, hats, and gloves)

*Please see the Red Cross box for the tax donation receipt information.
